Use this page as a reference for Digitech GNX4 configuration procedures that you may need to make while recording with your computer’s DAW software.

Procedure 1 – CONFIGURE THE GNX4 TO SEND A DRY GUITAR SIGNAL VIA USB

If you have a copy of the Power User’s Guide, this information is presented nicely on page 58 of Chapter 8 – Routing and Recording.  The purpose of this configuration is to have the GNX4 send the effects audio as mono on USB 1 and the dry guitar as mono on USB 2 simultaneously.  This configuration is required for re-amping because we need the original, dry signal to record and to use as the source of re-amped tracks in the DAW.  Having the original dry signal saves us time and allows it to be re-integrated into a mix in several ways.

  1. On the recorder section of the GNX4, press the Shift button
  2. Press the CF/USB 1-2 SRC buttonDigitech GNX4 Shift button
  3. Turn the Data Wheel until you encounter MONO ALLDigitech GMX4 MONOALL setting
  4. Press the CF/USB 3-4 SRC button, which is to the right of the CF/USB 1-2 SRC button
  5. Turn the Data Wheel until you encounter DRYGUITAR Digitech GNX4 Dry Guitar setting
  6. Press Shift to close the configuration mode

At this point, your GNX4 is configured to send mono effects on the first USB channel, and its mono dry guitar on the second USB channel.

A final note is that you will most likely need to adjust the levels of the USB channels at some point so that the audio is not too soft or so loud that it causes clipping.  The procedure is similar in that you would press Shift, and then the individual Channels’ buttons that are one row below the SRC buttons you just configured.

Procedure 2 – CONFIGURE THE GNX4 TO RE-AMP SIGNALS VIA USB

Similar to the procedure for specifying the USB 1-2 and USB 3-4 audio sources, the GNX4 must be configured for re-amping so that it can accept the signal to be re-amped and re-send the audio out via the USB cable to the computer’s DAW.

  1. On the recorder section of the GNX4, press the Shift button
  2. Press the CF/USB 1-2 SRC button Digitech GNX4 Shift button
  3. Turn the Data Wheel until you encounter REAMPUSB Digitech GNX4 re-amp setting
  4. Press Shift to close the configuration mode

At this point, your GNX4 is configured to receive the signal from your computer’s DAW on USB 1 and re-send it back to the DAW on the same channel.  This may sound counter-intuitive, but USB 1 is a stereo pair of tracks so the audio coming in is on the left side and the newly re-amped audio is on the right side of the channel.
